The single pole double throw shown in the top view, has two sets of contacts that are operated by a single actuator. But in this style, one switch opens and the other closes with each movement of the actuator. The two pins must be connected externally on one side of the switch to create the single pole. There is no internal connection between adjacent pins. The double pole double throw switch shown in the bottom view operates in the same way as the single pole double throw, but instead of two sets of contacts, there are four sets of contacts operated by a single actuator. Two open and two close with the movement of a single actuator. To operate as a double pole double throw, the two adjacent pins for each switch must be connected externally. There is no internal connection between adjacent pins.
