Copper clad steel, also called Copper Weld®, is another common conductor material. It is composed of a steel wire with a coating of copper welded to it before the copper is drawn into wires. This is a different process than copper plating. Although the conductivity of copper-covered steel is only 30 to 40 percent of solid copper, copper-weld is stronger because of the steel core and is less expensive than solid copper.
