In classic non-zero-IF receivers, the IF channel select filter is often a SAW filter with good stop-band rejection. In a single carrier receiver, the SAW filter selects the desired carrier and attenuates adjacent signals. The single carrier nature of the IF and baseband components helps to reduce performance requirements on individual stages. The ADC at the end of the analog signal chain must have good enough IF sampling performance to process the IF signal accurately. After the IF signal is sampled, the final quadrature demodulation is completed in the digital domain. In general, a non-zero-IF receiver does not require great 2nd order distortion performance.
