Analog Devices’ MAX14878–MAX14880 are isolated CAN transceivers ideal for building automation, HVAC, industrial controls, and switching gear. They provide up to 5000 VRMS of galvanic isolation between the cable and controller sides of the transceiver. The transceivers use integrated capacitive isolation that allows data transmission at up to 1 Mbps, and some models offer a standby input to disable the driver and reduce power consumption. The devices also feature a wide receiver input common mode range and ±54 V fault protection on the receiver inputs for easier external surge protection design. The transmitter dominant timeout feature prevents CAN controllers from clamping the bus, and the controller side supports a voltage range of 1.71 V to 5.5 V to simply interfacing to CAN controllers.
