To turn on the high side MOSFET a bootstrap circuit is used to raise and maintain the gate source voltage to about 10 V during on time. Knowing the gate voltage and gate charge, the designer can calculate the capacitance from the formula “C equals Q over V”. As a general rule a safety margin of 50 times the capacitance is considered good.
