The PWM dimming engine and the analog dimming control are combined in Microchip LED drivers. The block diagram on this page provides a top-level view of how this is done. The PWM dimming engine is controlled through an internal register or an external PWM signal. Analog dimming is achieved through controlling the peak current of the LED strings by setting the global or per LED string digital-to-analog converter (DAC).
