Texas Instruments’ ADS981x is an 8-channel, dual simultaneous-sampling analog-to-digital converter (ADC) featuring an 18-bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADC with up to 2 MSPS per channel. Each channel includes a complete analog front-end with input clamp protection, 1 MΩ input impedance, and a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with selectable bandwidth options. The high input impedance allows direct sensor and transformer connections without external drivers. The ADS981x supports unipolar or bipolar inputs with a common-mode voltage of up to ±12 V and features a 4.096 V reference for the ADC and a 2.5 V reference output for external circuits. It operates with a digital interface range of 1.2 V to 1.8 V, eliminating the need for external voltage translators. The device offers input overvoltage protection up to ±18 V, user-selectable input bandwidths of 21 kHz and 400kHz, and excellent AC and DC performance with 92.2 dB SNR and -112 dB THD, making it ideal for applications such as semiconductor testing, data acquisition, and battery testing.
