A chip bead ferrite placed correctly during the circuit board design is still the most effective prevention of EMI. In order to offer the optimum of size, current requirement and EMI suppression, Würth Elektronik is offering its WE-CBF series in the sizes of 0402 up to 1812 and are rated for industrial temperature requirements (-55°C up to 125°C). In order to make the best selection of a chip bead ferrite for an application, Würth Elektronik has grouped its products into four categories.
High Current Products
"High Current" SMD ferrites from the WE-CBF series are designed for high current (over 1 A). The rated current refers to 40 K self-heating. High current SMD ferrites are available in all three types (high speed, wide band, and high frequency). Applications include power supplies and DC/DC converters.
High Frequency Products
"High Frequency" SMD ferrites from the WE-CBF series have, due to a modified internal layout, an increased effective suppression frequency range. Consequently the impedance at 1 GHz is up to three times higher. Applications include HDD and fast bus signals.
High Speed Products
"High Speed" SMD ferrites from the WE-CBF series have lower impedance in the lower frequency ranges; thus, they have only a low attenuation for fast signals. Applications include USB 2.0, IEEE 1394, and LVDS.
Wide Band Products
"Wide Band" SMD ferrites from the WE-CBF series already show high impedance in a low frequency range. Therefore, they are wide band through the whole spectrum. Applications include control signals, RS232, RS422, and DC/DC converters.
