IPS160HF and IPS161HF Single-Channel High-Side Switches
STMicroelectronics' monolithic single-channel high-side switches can drive capacitive, resistive, or inductive loads
STMicroelectronics' IPS160HF and IPS161HF are monolithic devices that can drive capacitive, resistive, or inductive loads with one side connected to ground (high-side switch). The operating voltage is recommended in the range 8 V to 60 V, but the breakdown voltage on the supply pin can reach 65 V. The devices, thanks to the short propagation delay time at startup (<100 μ), address SIL (Safety Integrity Level) applications requirements for interface type C (or D) Class 3.
The only difference between the two devices, IPS160HF and IPS161HF, is the current limitation protection internal setting; all the remaining electrical parameters are equal. The output stage is an N-channel power MOSFET with a typical RDS(ON) of 60 mΩ at ambient temperature, internally limited at 2.6 A minimum output current for IPS160HF and 0.7 A for IPS161HF.
IPS160HF and IPS161HF single switches high side drivers thanks to the embedded protections with the cutoff time programmable by choosing external capacitor value and integrated diagnostics that are very suitable devices to realize functional safety machinery.
