GEMevaluation-kit™ Open Frame HMI System

The Amulet Technologies GEMevaluation-kit includes all the hardware needed to create a graphically rich, interactive, and user-friendly color graphical user interface (GUI). Combined with GEMstudio™, Amulet Technologies' powerful GUI design software, it enables the rapid creation of sophisticated interfaces that are not only ideal for prototyping but also fully deployable in final production. Designs can be seamlessly transferred to GEMmodules™ or customized Amulet-based solutions, streamlining the entire development-to-production process.

All Amulet Technologies GEMmodules are complete HMI systems featuring a powerful application processor and a graphical OS integrated onto a touch-screen TFT display. Designed to simplify the development of GUIs for embedded systems, it provides a compact, ready-to-use solution for manufacturers and developers seeking to implement touch-enabled displays without the need for extensive hardware or software modifications. The module is suitable for a wide range of applications, including industrial control systems, medical devices, and consumer electronics where intuitive human-machine interaction is important.

These modules include a WVGA TFT LCD that delivers clear, high-contrast visuals with wide viewing angles, enhanced by a white LED backlight. The built-in application processor features a hardware floating-point unit, 24-bit color with alpha blending, a USB device interface, and multiple serial interfaces for connecting to the users' host microcontroller. On-board memory includes 64 Mb of SDR SDRAM to support smooth high-resolution graphics, along with 64 Mb of serial data Flash for secure and reliable code storage. Built-in electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection helps increase system reliability in electrically noisy environments.

A key feature of the GEMmodule is its use of the Amulet Technologies proprietary graphical operating system, which manages all GUI processing, including the handling of user events, independently of the user host microcontroller. This allows developers to enhance existing systems, including those using 8-bit microcontrollers, without the need for major architectural changes. The OS is optimized for embedded use, offering reliable 24/7 operation, fast boot times, and a small memory footprint. The OS has built-in support for multi-language user interfaces, anti-aliased fonts, and native rendering of common image formats such as animated GIF, JPEG, and PNG.

Each GEMevaluation-kit includes a 1-year subscription to GEMstudio, valued at $1,200.

Development for the Amulet Technologies GEMmodule is streamlined through full compatibility with Amulet GEMstudio, a versatile GUI development environment designed to accelerate time to market. GEMstudio offers three flexible development approaches, including a full WYSIWYG drag-and-drop interface that requires no coding, making it accessible to users of varying skill levels. Applications can be created, tested, and deployed in a matter of days or weeks, significantly faster than traditional methods.

Additionally, projects designed with GEMstudio can be easily migrated to a different size GEMmodule or any other Amulet Technologies GEMmodule with minimal effort.
